Network and remote access
Find the device address and connect securely on a local network.
Network setup varies with the board and image. Check the active interface before changing configuration, and keep a local or USB recovery path available when editing remote network settings.
Inspect addresses
ip -brief link
ip -brief address
ip route
An interface can be physically connected but lack an IP address. If DHCP is expected, verify the cable or Wi-Fi connection and the network's DHCP service before assigning a static address.
Test the path
From the workstation, check that the device responds on the intended address:
ping <device-ip>
ssh <username>@<device-ip>
Some networks block ICMP, so a failed ping alone does not prove SSH is unavailable. Confirm that both devices are on the same subnet and that SSH is enabled in the installed image.
Remote access hygiene
Use the device only on a trusted development network until credentials, updates, and access controls are configured. Change factory passwords when present. Do not expose SSH, ADB, or a web desktop directly to the public internet.
